Job Details
Working as part of the Older Peoples community social work service, based in St Andrews Community Hospital (2 posts) or Buckhaven Burgh Chambers (1 post). Hybrid working, and after 6 months in post, flexible working options can be considered. Both St Andrews Older People Team and Leven Older People Team are supportive and friendly, both teams having a diverse range of experiences that contribute to providing effective learning and development environments. All social workers have manageable caseloads and regular opportunities for formal and informal supervision. These are permanent positions with a salary of £38,950.71 to 42,686.23.
Social Workers must be qualified with a BA (Hons) Social Work prior to applying. The degree can only be achieved when the applicant is a social work student. A SW student must be registered with the SSSC on the social worker student register and will transfer to the social worker register when qualified.
The successful candidate will work as part of a busy community team, supporting adults over the age of 65 years and their families/carers. Experience in working with Older People would be advantageous however, this is not essential. We are looking for social workers who are enthusiastic and solution-focussed, who can work creatively, are innovative and work well as part of a team.
Key responsibilities include:
Carrying out comprehensive outcome-focused assessments
Providing written reports as required, including support plans
Assessing, managing, monitoring and reducing risks to service users and others
Undertaking Adult Protection Inquiries, Investigations and Case Conferences in accordance with Fife Council’s Adult Protection Procedures
Working with our Carers to assess their needs and outcomes
Carrying a varied caseload and maintaining service users/carer contact as required
Involvement as a Duty Social Worker on a rotational basis
Acting as Welfare Guardian on behalf of the Chief Social Work Officer (CSWO)
Supervising Private Welfare Guardians
Updating and ensuring the accuracy of all relevant service user records and taking responsibility for the effective application of information management systems
Engaging and working in partnership with Service Users/Family Members, Police, Health, Statutory and Voluntary Agencies and others as appropriate.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland.
As this role requires SSSC registration, the successful applicant will have three months to apply for registration.

You are required to register with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up employment in this role. NQSW will be supported to complete the required CPL over the first year of professional practice registration period.
