A great opportunity has arisen to join Suffolk County Council`s 0-19 Healthy Child Service as a Health Visitor, working from various teams across Suffolk.

Suffolk’s Health (0-19) and Children`s Centre teams provide services for parents/carers, children and young people, focusing on prevention and early intervention to support children, young people and their families to achieve their best outcomes. Health Visitors lead the Healthy Child Programme (DoH, 2009) for children 0-5 years of age which provides a universal and targeted service tailored to the individual needs of the children and families in our care.

You will:

  • Be working directly with families to help support the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual wellbeing of expectant parents and their babies and children from pregnancy to 5 years to enable them to achieve their best outcomes. 
  • Work in partnership to lead the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme 0-5 (HCP) assessing, planning, supervising and delivering high-quality care and evaluating the outcomes of this with the families involved.

 

Your responsibilities

You will:

  • Offer universal contacts to all children at key milestones and enhanced support to the families on a targeted and specialist pathway as outlined in the Health and Children’s Centre Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and the clinical governance framework. 
  • Work in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct, and other regulatory guidelines, ensuring your NMC registration is maintained.
  • Through effective practice and multiagency working, safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults which will include participation in safeguarding meetings and undertaking all relevant assessments.
  • Supervise and support more junior staff and liaise with other partners and agencies to provide joined-up and responsive support.

 

You will need:

  • To be a qualified Health Visitor or nearing the completion of your Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) course
  • To be a registered adult, paediatric, mental health, learning disability nurse or midwife. 
  • A current Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Registration.
  • The ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
