The Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh is looking for a new Fellow to contribute to its growing research, teaching and outreach programme on contemporary Muslim societies in a globalised world.

The Opportunity:

If you already hold a contract of employment with the University of Edinburgh, you should apply for this role via the internal applications portal here.

This is a three-year fixed-term fellowship ideal for a person recently qualified to PhD level, or a more established scholar looking to develop their research, teaching and outreach skills and experience.

The Fellow will conduct research into the contemporary social/political/religious dynamics of a key region, or regions, of the Muslim world. We are particularly interested in researchers with regional expertise in Sub-Saharan Africa or Asia, as well as transnational perspectives that cut across global geographies.

The Fellow will contribute to the Alwaleed Centre’s teaching activities at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a particular focus on the Centre’s MSc The Globalised Muslim World programme (contributing to an average of 2 courses per year). The fellow will also contribute to the research outputs and visibility of the Centre by developing their own research and by collaborating with colleagues on shared projects and endeavours.

We welcome applications for this post from all qualified candidates and particularly welcome applications from members of minority ethnic groups, who are currently under-represented in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.

Informal inquiries may be directed to [email protected]

Please note that while the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures operates with a hybrid working model, teaching is delivered in person and on campus.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Strong publication track record.
  • Ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
