East Suffolk Council is looking to recruit a minimum of three people to become members of our Independent Remuneration Panel, which is the body which considers, and makes recommendations to Full Council on, the allowances paid to councillors.

The residents of East Suffolk currently elect 55 Councillors, who are responsible for key decisions on policies and priorities of the district and they undertake a wide variety of roles. For this service, they receive allowances in accordance with a Members Allowance Scheme which sets out the payments to be made for each role. We want to ensure that their allowances fairly reflect the work that they are undertaking as part of their role.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A high level of integrity and probity
  • An ability to analyse information and make recommendations to the Council
  • The ability to demonstrate sound judgement in decision making
  • The ability to acquire knowledge quickly and work with others

You must live or work in the East Suffolk District and you must not be politically active or have any relationship with East Suffolk Councillors or the Council.  Training will be provided.

An allowance of £100 per meeting (subject to confirmation by Full Council on 25 September 2024) will be payable to the successful applicants, once a revised Members Allowance Scheme has been adopted by the Council.  It is anticipated that meetings will take place in person and will commence before the end of October 2024.
