Embedded Software Intern

Emerson’s Process Systems and Solutions business develops automation software to streamline manufacturing processes. We are looking for an Embedded Software Intern (Summer 2025) who is interested in gaining real-world experience in a dynamic, collaborative environment at our Austin, TX location.
As an Embedded Systems Intern, you will be involved in writing test applications and developing drivers for embedded systems. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in embedded systems development and contribute to real-world projects.
In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Develop and write test applications for ARM and FPGA-based embedded systems
- Assist in the design, development, and testing of device drivers
- Support the board bring-up process by developing low-level software
- Work closely with hardware and software teams to understand project requirements and specifications
- Debug and troubleshoot embedded software and hardware issues
- Document code, test procedures, and results
- Participate in code reviews and team meetings to ensure adherence to high-quality software development practices

- Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Basic understanding of embedded systems and ARM architecture
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming languages
- Familiarity with embedded development tools and environments
- Knowledge of debugging techniques and tools
- Legal authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship will not be provided for this position
- Entering either Junior or Senior year
- Completed courses in: Digital logic design, introduction to computing, introduction to embedded systems
- Exposure to:
- Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
- Understanding of hardware interfaces and protocols
- Experience with software version control systems
- Previous internship experience in a professional environment
- Strategic mindset and self-motivated
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills
- Innovative approach to solve problems
