Your role and responsibilities
In this role you will be a key member of the Children and Young People’s (CYP) Placement Team. The Team’s function is to source care and support placements i.e residential children’s homes, foster carers and supported accommodation for Suffolk’s children in care. By being part of this team, you will provide the financial and business support vital for the team and its significant and high profile budget.
Day to day, your role will involve:
- the processing of prompt payments to placement providers ensuring invoices match the amounts agreed for the care, accurately reflect any changes to care costs, provide budget forecasts and ensure a clear audit trail of spend
- ensuring care package details are accurately uploaded onto individual children’s case files promptly and updated regularly to reflect changes
- being the first point of contact for and resolve financial and business processes queries related to placement care packages
- liaising with a range of external and internal i.e placement providers, social care teams, landlords, maintenance providers to support the placement team’s processes and function
- work with the data and intelligence hub team to ensure data collection and produce quarterly reports related to the Placement Teams’ outputs
You will need
- to be competent at using case management and electronic payments systems (i.e Liquid Logic, ContrOCC and Oracle) however training on specific systems will be available if you have transferable IT and financial management experience
- to be a supportive and collaborative team player with good customer relationship and negotiating skills
- to enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be able to remain positive and calm in challenging situations
- to prioritise your work and work on your own initiative, recognising when to highlight risks and budget issues to your manager

The team
As the Business and Finance Officer in the team you will play a unique and central role to the team.
The Placements Team:
- are small team committed to trying to ensure that a home to meet a child’s needs can be sourced in the timescales they need it. There are times when this can be challenging to achieve, but the team’s solution focused and supportive culture endures; -helped by good humour
- are all proud of the positive relationships they have with social care teams and internal and external providers of care and the role the team plays in safeguarding children
- consists of a Manager, Senior Placement Officer and three placement Officers.
- are part of the wider Commissioning and Contracts Team s the Business and Finance Officer in the team you will play a unique and central role to the team.
Office working days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Hybrid working is an option used on the other weekdays, but the team often prefer to work from the office at particularly busy times.
