• Responsible for safety & discipline in the work area
• Overall define the quay, gate, and yard strategy
• Ensure adequate availability of all resources – people & equipment to execute the operational requirements for the day
• Track the ongoing vessel operations, investigate reasons for delays if any and take appropriate corrective measures
• Develop short, medium, and long-term operations plan to deliver on operational commitments and customer expectations, providing regular reports and analysis on the productivity of ship, yard, equipment, and resource utilization
• Coordinate with the shift superintendent and ensure that the plans/documents essential  for the daily vessel operations are available, if not take up the matter with the respective departmental heads
• Promptly attend to escalated unresolved issues which can impact terminal operations – e.g. request for more quay cranes, tractor trailers etc.
• In coordination with the planning team, ensure that the stowage for all scheduled vessels is appropriately planned
• Discuss yard planning strategies with Vessel Operations personnel, analyze its impact on the vessel operations, identify possible corrective actions and convey this to the Planning and Cargo Control Manager

Analysis and Cost Control

• Develop departmental KPIs and monitor them on a regular basis. Monitor and analyze the following factors such as:
  • Quay crane productivity and utilization
  • Utilization of all quay side resources
  • Number of vessels serviced per day 
  • Completion time of vessels
  • Berth occupancy and vessel waiting time before commencement and post completion of operations
• Number and nature of accidents. Ensure safety principles are followed 
• Ensure economical, efficient, and productive use of the department’s equipment and manpower
• Ensure development and/or maintenance of cost databases enabling measuring total cost of ownership (TCO)

Relationship Management

• Establish, organize, and maintain a high standard of working relationships with the terminal stakeholders, lines, agents, shippers, consignees, port authority, customs and other concerned parties
• Ensure the liner agent & Marine operations are timely informed about sailing time
• Ensure effective coordination and communication within each section of Terminal Operations. Act as the key internal and external focal point for the company`s operational activities

General activities

• Define initiatives to improve terminal productivity
• Promote and drive innovation at terminal level
• Ensure balance in the duty schedules with allocated day offs 
• Maintain constant communication with the Shift Superintendent / Supervisors to ensure effective vessel operations
• Ensure effective inter and intra departmental communication
• Plan, monitor and analyze relevant reports
• Propose areas for operational improvement, system automation and up gradation
• Perform periodical scheduled performance review with reporting personnel

Identify and develop the department’s technology and training requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Experience in container planning operations: Appx: 8-10 years
• Experience in project management role/ supervisory role in container terminals ~ 5 years
• Integrity
• Work standard adherence
• Graduate/ Bachelors degree in management or related field or equivalent
• Advanced study in logistics with specialization in container terminals
• Experience in managing container terminal operating system (Zodiac, NAVIS, Cosmos, etc.)
• Decision making and analytical ability
• Computer operating skills
• Goal and achievement oriented
• Strong leadership and relationship building skills
• Prior experience in managing and building teams
• Good communication and negotiation skills
